BACHELOR OF CREATIVE ARTS – CH72

The Bachelor of Creative Arts is an exciting and innovative course with majors in acting, contemporary dance, popular music or visual arts. Your studies will combine discipline-specific skills with an insider understanding of the creative industries. You will develop and polish performance skills through practical studios, industry seminars, theory studies, personal reflection, and hands-on educational opportunities.

*Term 3 intake is only available for domestic students that have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Dance or Music Industry. This pathway is only available for entry into the Contemporary Dance or Popular Music majors.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE
You are required to complete a total of 24 units including eight compulsory core units, eight units from your chosen major in acting, contemporary dance, popular music or visual arts and eight elective units chosen from any undergraduate course at CQUniversity.

MAJOR OPTIONS
Acting
Harness your passion for acting and achieve a professional qualification by majoring in acting. Available to study on campus in Cairns and Townsville, you will gain valuable theoretical knowledge and be able to describe fundamental dramaturgy as well as contextualise the process and place of contemporary indigenous arts within the international and Australian cultural industries. You will build confidence working across a broad range of theatrical styles adopting a reflective acting practice and have the opportunity to create and lead an artistic product working in collaboration with other artists. 

Contemporary dance
Contemporary dance will provide industry-relevant and practical training to assist you in pursuing a career in dance. You will create, choreograph, market, and produce a contemporary dance performance in an artistic and safe environment. The contemporary dance major is available to study on campus in Townsville and will allow you to implement theatre technology and stagecraft as well as collaborate with other artists to lead and create an artistic product. You will gain knowledge of the creative industries and arts business in Australia and overseas as well as learn to contextualise the process and place of contemporary indigenous arts within the international and Australian cultural industries.


Popular music

Forge a career in the music industry by studying the popular music major where you will produce, record, perform and market popular music. You will integrate music and lyrics to create songs in a popular music style and apply the theory and history of popular music to your practice. In the popular music major you will gain an understanding of the creative industries and arts business in Australia and overseas and contextualise the process and place of contemporary indigenous arts within the international and Australian cultural industries. You will gain practical skills by taking a leadership role in an artistic production while collaborating with other artists. The Popular Music major is available to study at our Cairns campus.

Visual arts
Expand your talents in the visual arts by undertaking the visual arts major in the Bachelor of Creative Arts. Study on campus in Rockhampton and refine your skills and knowledge in drawing fundamentals and contemporary art practices.

Entrance into the Bachelor of Creative Arts is contingent upon an interview/audition

  • An audition is required for entry into the music, dance or acting majors.
  • An interview and presentation of a portfolio is required for entry into the visual arts major

Auditions and interviews will usually be conducted in person, but may be undertaken remotely in certain circumstances.

Domestic applicants should have achieved English (4, SA) or equivalent.

In addition to the above requirements, international applicants must have a score of at least 6.5 across all bands on an IELTS test undertaken during the 12 month period prior to submitting an application for admission or have successful completion of an AQF Level 7 equivalent qualification in an English speaking country.
